The World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) is an annual event presenting the world’s leading circular economy solutions, bringing together business leaders, policymakers and experts from around the world. The WECF 2022 was held for the first time in Africa (Kigali, 6-8 December). This global forum brought together forward-looking thinkers and doers and presented the game-changers in the circular economy for the first time in Africa.
In the occasion of this Global Event, MedWaves was involved through 2 Accelerator Sessions, both taking place on the 8th December:
- “JUST2CE: working towards an inclusive and just transition to a circular economy”, organized under the JUST2CE Project. This session explored the concept of Circular Economy, and what transitioning to circularity might imply for North-South relations; as well as how existing power relations might hamper this Transition. The recorded session is available in the present link. Additional information on the session can also be found here.
- “Increasing the circularity of fashion”, organized under SwitchMed. This session explores the circular approaches that could contribute to the reduction of the footprint of the textile and garment. More information on the session can be found here.
We encourage all readers to explore these two side events, as well as the other WCEF 2022 recorded sessions, as they present interesting discussions from experts from around the world around circularity, and how it could be implemented in Major themes relevant to Africa’s Development, such as climate, infrastructure, youth, trade and entrepreneurship among others. The discussions and the solutions presented have a considerable potential of replicability in the Mediterranean area.
